Comic Relief support Harlow foodbank | ||
|
January 2010
We are pleased to announce that COMIC RELIEF have recently donated £10,000 in support of the work of Harlow Foodbank and we would like to express our sincere thanks to them and to ESSEX COMMUNITY FOUNDATION who coordinated the funding bid on behalf of MRCT. Gary Knott (Director of Community Services) commented "We are delighted to have the work of Harlow foodbank endorsed by Comic Relief and are proud of our partnership with them as they like us want to support vulnerable people facing poverty through times of crisis". The COMIC RELIEF website states
"Many people throughout
Britain struggle to make ends meet. Some may have recently lost their jobs
and others may be dealing with debilitating illnesses or mental health
problems that leave them in situations where they can't afford the basics.
The Michael Roberts Charitable Trust runs the
Harlow Foodbank for those who are in need
of nutritious food. It's a crucial community project, helping local people
to get by whilst they seek to build independent futures". The COMIC RELIEF vision is ‘a just world free from poverty’ and it reads..... Our mission, thanks to our comedy heritage and the fantastic relationship we enjoy with the BBC, is 'positive change through the power of entertainment'. And our biggest tool, in trying to achieve these two goals, is the ability to inspire people across the whole country especially those who don’t normally do charity - to do charity. As the world has changed and become more complex over the last two decades, so Comic Relief has had to adapt and change too but the fundamentals remain the same - a just world free from poverty. In trying to achieve that vision we make this promise to the people who make those efforts possible - our supporters. Additional funding This additional funding will go towards the development of the Harlow Foodbank in 2010 which up to the end of December 2009 had supported 598 PEOPLE (349 adults & 249 children) with emergency food in Harlow.
