How much do you know about
Ghana?
The
Republic
of Ghana is on the west coast of Africa and has a population of 23 million people.
The average life expectancy for both men and women is 20 years.
Nearly 40% of the population is under 14 years old, which are over 9 million
children.
With employment running at 20% of the working population, Ghana has over
30% of its people under the poverty line. This encompasses many children
and vulnerable people.
The Upper East Region of Ghana is one of the poorest areas of the country
where many people are unemployed. Those that have work are mainly employed
in farming which is very unpredictable due to the constant variable climate and
weather changes.
There are many areas where help and support is needed.
Providing a helping hand
At MRCT we recognise that we cannot do everything, but we can make a
difference! Working in partnership with local people and groups, where
there are specific needs and support required, we can help to empower and enable
them to live a more self-sufficient life and then they too can make a
difference.
And this is where Project Ghana
comes in.
Working with Pastor Thomas Ayine,
Thomas has a disability and is Pastor of Living Hope Assemblies of God
Church in Bolgatanga, Ghana. He is also the Public
Relations Officer for the youth wing of the Ghana Society for the Physically Disabled. Bolgatanga is in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
MRCT greatly values the work that Pastor Thomas undertakes in his
community both with his church and with his work with disabled people.
Funding support is maintained to him to cover his monthly salary and for other
identified community based projects.
