Committed to improving lives

MRCT is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of disabled and socially disadvantaged people.

Since our formation as a charity in 1997 we have sought to involve people with a disability in all aspects of our work, promoting the value and significance of each person as an individual, encouraging them to take an active  role in decision-making and future planning.

We promote community integration for people with a learning and / or physical disability and provide opportunities for them to help meet social need in Harlow and London.

Our key aim is the inclusion of all people, irrespective of social status, ability, disability, ethnic grouping or religious belief in society.  It is all too easy to write off someone because they may not be socially acceptable or fit into the general conception of how someone should look or act.

The Michael Roberts Charitable Trust (MRCT) has been established to help and support people who are often perceived as being disadvantaged. Disadvantaged through either disability or social difficulties.

We live in a world where everyone is encouraged to improve themselves and achieve.  Very soon we discover that it is not always possible.  People should  be treated equally and have the same opportunities and encouragement in life to help them develop as an individual and reach their full potential.

Helping hands

Over the years we have seen MRCT make a difference in people's lives.  With our team of staff and volunteers we provide opportunities which ENABLE people needing support to get a helping hand to personally improve and develop as individuals.  This is achieved by empowering them by providing voluntary work and social opportunities where they can work and meet in a relaxed environment, enabling them to socialise, learn and develop.

Based in Harlow, MRCT has established the Maybury Open Door centres, developed programs of support for homeless and vulnerably housed people and organised special projects in association with disABLED people.  MRCT is also working in Ghana providing funding and support with community-based projects for children and adults with a wide range of disabilites.

Core values

We believe that every individual has the ABILITY to contribute to society in a positive and practical way.

Some people require special individual attention and support, places to go where they can feel accepted.  Meeting with people who have a desire to help and assist them.

No matter how extreme an individual's circumstances may be, with support, their lives can be enhanced.

As a Christian-based organisation our aims and objectives are to develop voluntary work and social opportunities and seek to meet the needs of vulnerable people, particularly those with learning and / or physical disabilities.

The charity seeks to involve people with a disABILITY in all aspects of its work, promoting the value and significance of each person as an individual, encouraging them to take an active  role in decision-making and future service planning.  It also provides opportunities which will ENABLE them to serve their local community in positive and practical ways.
